Today I walked the trails at Rollins Savanna; every portion except the Discovery Trail. This 1/10 mile dogleg, according to sign, is open today, but it would have required wellies. I started down the path but turned back when the geese ahead of me started swimming the route.
Starting at the main entrance along Washington Street I kept to my right. Shortly before the smaller, ~1 mile, loop trail the scenery improved. Prior to that there wasn't much to see in the way of fauna, and just brown grass in terms of flora. On the back side of the trail you enter a lightly wooded area. Beside the shorter loop there were a pair of Sandhill Cranes. It was around this time that I had warmed up enough to take off my shirt, leaving just my t shirt; a glorious day for winter.
A little over half-way around the larger loop there is an observation area, with binoculars overseeing the wetland inside the loop. Through these binoculars I spotted six deer.
Once the Discovery Trail has had time to dry I'll return to walk that portion.
